40+ years of continued service to the Department of State
Mason & Hanger teamed up with New York-based SHoP Architects for the design of the U.S. Department of State New Office Annex (NOX) in Bangkok, Thailand. The design established a modern LEED Silver certified office tower, as well as additional consular accommodations, and added utility and security elements. Mason & Hanger’s design team supported the development of Bridging Documents in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Telecommunications, Life Safety, Fire Protection, and Technical Security. Mason & Hanger is the Sustainability/LEED Coordinator for the overall project preparing the High Performance Building Report, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and LEED Scorecard for the overall project.

Mason & Hanger partnered with Yost Grube Hall (now Integrus) for the design of the U.S. Embassy Compound. The compound is situated on 43 acres in Islamabad’s “Diplomatic Enclave.” The first phase of the project included a chancery building, office annex and Ambassador’s residence and was completed in 2015. The second phase included a consular annex, staff apartments and other amenities for the 2500 residents and was completed in 2018. The 1.5 million SF complex is essentially a self-sustaining city and includes a commissary, post office and indoor pool.
The design incorporated many sustainable design principles such as an on-site wastewater treatment plant that re-uses water for irrigation, LED lighting campus-wide, local construction materials, and automated building controls that reduce energy consumption.
