Designing the Future - 3D Laser Scanning

Day & Zimmermann provides in-house laser scanning and 3D data capture technology to create a digital facility that integrates into the design phase of projects. This provides our customers with a solution that can be deployed at various stages in the lifecycle of the capital or maintenance planning process. Working within a digital facility, the assets can be virtually tagged and dynamically linked to databases to ensure safety, quality assurance, maintenance records/planning, and construction planning.

Day & Zimmermann’s in-house laser scanning provides our customers with a tremendous return on their investment, including cost and schedule savings along with the ability to reuse the data to establish work processes on future projects.

CASE STUDY
One of our customers in the chemical industry needed to replace a high-alloy vessel and all associated piping. The process area that contained the vessel was constructed in the 1980s and all of the existing drawings were inaccurate and outdated. The work required two scheduled shutdowns.

Day & Zimmermann executed this project by:

  • Installing prefabricated piping and making repairs to the vessel.
  • Implementing laser scanning for as-built field conditions.
  • Integrated laser scanning with 3D modeling.

The results of using our in-house laser scanning technology included.

  • No rework on shutdown piping.
  • Project completed on schedule.
  • Project completed under budget.

Laser scanning can help industrial plant owners manage their business, save money, reduce risk, and increase capacity and efficiency. Day & Zimmermann has provided in-house laser scanning solutions at industrial facilities around the world.
