The outcome of the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd will likely have both short- and long-term impacts on our country. No matter how you feel about the verdicts, I urge you to be respectful and calm if you choose to express yourself at this time. Each of us is entitled to his, her or their own feelings, and it’s important that we all work constructively to move forward together.
Law enforcement professionals have a difficult job, and the many hard working, dedicated men and women who thoughtfully and carefully uphold the law are worthy of our thanks. However, we continue to discuss the role of law enforcement in our society as we have unfortunately seen other examples in recent weeks of intolerance, racism and violence against people of color. Today’s verdicts will undoubtedly increase the focus and conversation around these issues. Only by continuing to openly discuss the complex factors surrounding these events, and how they impact us personally and collectively, can we find a way to move forward. I am committed to having these discussions at Day & Zimmermann and ensuring that our company is a safe place for all people and all perspectives.
Only by continuing to openly discuss the complex factors surrounding these events, and how they impact us personally and collectively, can we find a way to move forward.
At times like these, it’s important to keep in mind our core values of Safety, Integrity, Diversity and Success. I expect all employees who wish to add to the many internal and external discussions going on, to do so respectfully and according to our standards. Any form of violence is not acceptable. Harassment, hate speech and intolerance have no place here and we will take appropriate action when any instances are brought to our attention. And no matter how you feel about the verdicts, if you are struggling emotionally with this or other issues, please seek help from family, friends or our employee assistance program.
I urge you to add to the discussion in positive, constructive and respectful ways, that are representative of our core values, and to keep in mind that we must more forward together. This is true for our country, our communities and our company.
Please stay safe.
