PHILADELPHIA, PA—June 1, 2011— Day & Zimmermann, a nationally recognized provider of industrial, defense and workforce solutions for government and commercial customers, today announced its Day & Zimmermann NPS unit was honored with a 2010 Thomas J. Reynolds Award for excellence in construction safety. The prestigious award was presented by The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC) at the organization’s recent Leadership Conference in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The award is the latest validation of Day & Zimmermann’s position as an industry leader in the area of employee health and safety.
Day & Zimmermann NPS was one of a handful of companies recognized nationally for stellar on-site safety performance at locations across the US. TAUC used a combination of data from application and OSHA logs to determine the 2010 honorees. Day & Zimmermann’s on-site incident and injury rate was far below the national average, earning them the recognition. Day & Zimmermann continually seeks to build on its industry leading safety processes. In recent years the firm has implemented a number of innovative safety programs including tri-lateral (customer, labor, Day & Zimmermann) safety alliances, workplace behavioral observations, and task location pre-job briefs with craft personnel.
“Safety is our number one value, and this award underscores our efforts,” said Gary McKinney, President of Day & Zimmermann NPS. “We’ve always prided ourselves on our jobsite safety, and we continually seek new techniques to reduce risk to our employees. We will continue to push for new innovations and do what it takes to set the safety standard for our industry and beyond.”
The Thomas J. Reynolds Awards were created nearly three decades ago to recognize the exceptional efforts of TAUC members to prevent jobsite injuries. Companies that achieve an incident rate 25 percent or more below the national average, as determined by The Bureau of Labor Statistics, are eligible for the award.
