PARSONS, KS – July 19, 2012 – Day & Zimmermann, has reached an agreement with the U.S. Army to purchase 4,112 acres of the former Kansas Army Ammunition Plant (KSAAP). This will allow continued production of critical defense products for our warfighters as well as maintaining employment of our skilled, dedicated, and patient employees.
On July 13, 2005, the Base Realignment and Closure Commission issued their report to close KSAAP. Shortly thereafter, Day & Zimmermann made the decision to purchase a portion of the property and begin negotiations with the Army. It has been a lengthy process but it is finally close to completion. The Army has notified Congress of the agreement and we now must wait the mandatory 35-day period for Congress to complete their review.
In the meantime, Day & Zimmermann and the Army will be working diligently to complete the necessary legal transactions for actual transfer, which is anticipated on or shortly after August 21, 2012.
We also want to thank the Kansas Congressional delegation for their continued support on our behalf. We especially want to thank Senator Pat Roberts, Senator Jerry Moran, and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins for their outstanding support and advocacy. They have served Labette County well throughout this process.
