Day & Zimmermann's Abled and DisAbled Advocates Partnering Together (ADAPT) employee resource group hosted a virtual webinar on November 13th, titled "Accountability for Accessibility, Part 2." This event provided valuable insights on fostering a culture of inclusion and addressing workplace ableism, further solidifying ADAPT's dedication to promoting accessibility within D&Z.
The event was led by Jamie Shields, an award-winning speaker and trainer who has been listed as one of the 100 most influential disabled individuals in the UK. Jamie takes immense pride in his role of cultivating a sense of belonging for disabled people in the workplace and helping organizations drive inclusive, accessible change. He brought invaluable insights to the discussion, drawing from his extensive experience on creating supportive and uplifting workplaces where all employees feel a true sense of belonging.
I appreciated Jamie’s transparency in sharing his journey in navigating workplace ableism and learned a lot from his story. He talked about simple accommodations that made a big difference to his success, and how important it is for employers to create an environment that folks feel comfortable disclosing disability so that accommodation can be made.
Jamie’s passion and commitment was an inspiration to attendees who engaged in a lively discussion, sharing their thoughts, perspectives, and ideas. Many left feeling not only better informed, but also motivated and empowered to take actionable steps to promote accessibility and challenge ableism within their roles.
This successful event highlighted the importance of the ADAPT ERG’s mission to enhance awareness, to foster the personal and professional growth of people with diverse abilities, and to build a communication network for employees, family and friends with disabilities. The webinar also strengthened participants' dedication to continue making accessibility and inclusion central to D&Z's culture.
