Committed, Active, Company Executives Lead the Way

Joseph J. Ucciferro, President and CEO, Commercial & Public Sector for Day & Zimmermann, serves as chairman of the Board of Directors that governs the National Safety Council (NSC), a 37,500-plus member not-for-profit, nongovernmental, international public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. Ucciferro's leadership position with the NSC is an outgrowth of his deep passion for avoiding accidents and mistakes that too often devastate the victims and their families.

Hal Yoh, Day & Zimmermann's Chairman & CEO, is a past president of the Construction Industry Institute (CII), where he led the organization's efforts to improve the competitiveness and business effectiveness of the construction industry in several areas, including safety, quality, reliability and operability. A key CII safety project is the Zero Accident Program. The philosophy of this program is that everyone, regardless of position, can be involved in reducing and/or eliminating on-the-job incidents. One Day & Zimmermann unit recently implemented the Zero Accident Program and eventually reduced its lost time rate by more than 250%.

True Safety Leadership Starts at the Top
Annually, Day & Zimmermann gathers more than 60 executives and managers from all company locations and businesses to review and talk about just one thing – safety. For two intense days, leaders review, critique and challenge Day & Zimmermann's safety culture and results in an effort to continually raise the safety bar across the company. Managers and executives are personally challenged to push the company's safety culture out to every site, every manager and every employee. The result, after a decade of nonstop executive commitment, is a safety performance that is approaching world class – and is getting better every year.
