Day & Zimmermann's munitions experience dates to the design, construction and operation of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant prior to and during World War II. The company today holds contracts for the operation of Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant (awarded in 1951), the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant (1970) and Hawthorne Army Depot (1980).
