Specializing in ordnance logistics and demilitarization, Day & Zimmermann's logistic capabilities are best expressed by our noteable performance record of 100% on-time delivery. To ensure customers receive the right quantities of materials according to schedule, we adjust typical shipping acitivities to accommodate just-in-time shipping to meet production schedules or cargo vessel loading.

Logistics

• Issue on average more than 24,000 tons of munitions each year and receive more than 16,000 tons.
• Manage the storage of 300,000 tons of munitions and explosives, encompassing more than 5,000 NSNs.
• Run inventory operations that encompass more than 2,400 magazines (earth covered and warehouse) with 100% accuracy for Category I & II munitions and 98.46% record-to-record accuracy for all munitions and explosives in 2005.
• In 2005, we processed more than 2,200 material release order (MRO) documents, and nearly 2,500 receipts. Over 98% of the receipts were posted to record within the 10 days required per Army regulations.

Demilitarization

The Western Area Demilitarization Facility  (WADF), located on 160 acres within the Hawthorne Army Depot, is the largest demilitarization facility for conventional ammunition in the world – and the only one of its kind. The WADF is designed to process 49,000 tons of conventional munitions per year, based on the mix of certain types of munitions and processes.

The WADF is a state-of-the-art complex capable of recycling a wide variety of demilitarization challenges. Typically, Day & Zimmermann demilitarizes 8,000 tons of conventional munitions annually, with a variety of processes designed to meet items-specific R3 requirements.

Day & Zimmermann's demilitarization capabilities include melt-out, wash-out, and thermal treatment processes for explosives and metals recovery and recycling, all of which are performed IAW with DOD and EPA regulations and requirements. Some of the specialized equipment used in these processes includes:
