Radiological Services

As part of our Managed Maintenance SolutionsTM, Day & Zimmermann provides comprehensive radiological services to support the nuclear power industry in balance-of-plant and refueling outage activities. Our senior health physics and decontamination technicians have been deployed to support nuclear power stations throughout the United States, including Arkansas Nuclear One, Fermi, Hope Creek, Kewaunee, Pilgrim, Point Beach and many more.

With deep resources that allow us to staff more than 6,000 maintenance-related outage positions every spring and fall, Day & Zimmermann has developed innovative ways to increase the efficiency of our maintenance and radiation protection efforts while building a more valuable workforce. One of our most successful efforts in this area is the cross-training and qualification of technicians in both the AOV and MOV valve service disciplines. This approach allows us to utilize a single work crew to not only repair valves, but also perform:

  • ALARA reviews of valve work packages prior to the start of the outage

  • Routine radiological surveys and results review to identify areas of concern

  • Radiation Work Permit reviews for submission to the RP Department

  • Pre-job briefings for work area radiological controls and concerns

  • Control area set-up and teardown using site contamination control procedures

  • Specific RP job coverage for integrated valve service work crews

  • End-of-job lessons learned reports for work-specific outage activities

In addition to health physics and decontamination technicians, Day & Zimmermann also provides in-processing instructors and other related specialists to a variety of companies.
