Alliance Relationships
Day & Zimmermann specializes in alliance-based relationships with our partners. Our experience has shown that this relationship results in the most mutually beneficial outcome for the customer, our organization and any other parties involved. We develop successful, long-term relationships by establishing a foundation built on trust and common goals. We then perform reliable services safely and productively in order to fully optimize the value we deliver to our customers. Proven, measurable results, coupled with lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives result in increased performance and lower cost of ownership for our customers.
Safety Focus and Commitment
Our people are our most important asset, and their safety is our number one priority in all of the often hazardous work we do. It is our belief that the next safety incident need not occur and that no injury is acceptable. To meet our aggressive safety goals we have implemented a rigorous safety program based on the five “high-impact Zero Injury techniques” identified by the Construction Industry Institute (CII) as best practices used by owners and contractors striving to achieve zero injuries.
As part of our commitment to stay on the cutting edge of industry safety practices, we have developed a comprehensive Nuclear Worker Fatigue Management Program in response to evolving worker fatigue rules and guidelines.
Addressing the Labor Market Challenges
Our alliance relationships also help us address the challenges of today’s construction environment, where craft and other skilled resources are becoming an increasingly scarce commodity. The aging workforce, natural disaster relief and commercial construction are severely straining this workforce. Day & Zimmermann is tackling the labor shortage issue head-on by developing both short-term answers and long-range solutions. We must work collaboratively as owners, contractors and labor to develop and implement a workable solution to this problem. As such, Day & Zimmermann has taken a number of initiatives to combat this critical issue:
-
Active involvement in the Southeast Manpower Tripartite Alliance (SEMTA) initiative, as well as other regional councils similar to SEMTA throughout the U.S.
-
Proactive partnering with owners, labor and tripartite committees well in advance of a project, and maintain rolling reviews, to determine project resource requirements, identify areas of anticipated shortages, and develop innovative solutions to labor challenges.
-
Leveraging both the Day & Zimmermann NPS union craft recruitment site, findunionwork.com , and the DZ Atlantic recruitment site, workatlantic.com, to assist in the recruitment and placement of skilled craft workers at our projects throughout the U.S.
-
Partnering with owners and technical and community colleges to establish training initiatives and secure government training grants targeted at the power industry.
-
Establishing long-term solutions through training institute partnerships where we develop and launch customized training initiatives designed to upgrade the skills of displaced workers.
-
Working collaboratively with owners to establish long-term partnerships or alliances for multiple services across multiple sites, with expanded core teams, and resource portability.
Additionally, Day & Zimmermann is working very closely with the Building & Construction Trades Department (BCTD) to promote membership in the skilled trades apprenticeship programs throughout the country, including the “Helmets to Hardhats” and “Crayons to CAD” programs, as well as increasing the number of recruiters nationwide to attract new members into the ranks.
