Yoh Kicks Off National Safety Month by Celebrating 2,000 Days of Work Without Time Lost due to Injury
Philadelphia—June 6, 2005—Yoh, a leading provider of high-impact talent and outsourcing services, and a unit of Day and Zimmermann, is kicking off June as National Safety Month by celebrating that its Why Be Safe program has helped its contract staff complete 2,000 consecutive days of employment without any days missed due to injury.
According to the National Safety Council, businesses nationwide spend over $200 billion per year in wages, productivity, medical expenses, and insurance administration as a result of disabling injuries. In accordance with the theme of this year's National Safety Month, 'Safety: Where we live, work, and play', Yoh reinforces its commitment to achieving the highest level of safety performance and productivity in the staffing industry through innovative safety programs such as Why Be Safe (http://www.whybesafe.com/).
"Our primary goal at Yoh is to ensure that the over 15,000 temporary and permanent employees we place each year have a safe and healthy experience on the job, on the road, and at home," says Steven Young, National Safety Director for Yoh. "With this milestone, the Why Be Safe program has proven effective at instilling a culture of safety within all Yoh employees, and has accentuated its founding principle that prevention is better than cure."
Why Be Safe, created by Yoh in 2002, promotes safety awareness in a wide variety of work environments, including offices, health care settings, telecommunications labs, and industrial areas. Offered at http://www.whybesafe.com/, the program includes a comprehensive safety orientation, along with a library of safety tips and procedures to create and sustain a safety-conscious environment and culture that will not be compromised for reasons of profit or productivity. Led by Bea Safe, Yoh's fictional safety spokesperson, participation in Why Be Safe is a requirement for all of Yoh's job candidates.
"Yoh's safety performance is world class, especially when you consider that Yoh does not control the workplace or directly supervise its contract staff," says Joe Ucciferro, Board Member of the National Safety Council, and President and CEO of Day & Zimmermann's Commercial & Public Sector business. "Yoh has raised the bar for safety performance in the staffing industry."
National Safety Month aims to raise awareness that there are more than 10,000 disabling injuries suffered on the job by workers every day. Inspired by the debilitating economic, medical, and personal effects of such injuries, Yoh relies on the personal commitment of each employee, as well as an active collaboration with its customers and the community, to make safety—at work, home, and on the road—a primary concern.
