High Tech Wages Increase in Third Quarter of 2005

Wages for high-impact technology professionals up for first time in 2005

PHILADELPHIA—November 3, 2005—Hourly wages for highly skilled technology professionals improved in the third quarter of 2005 compared to the same period in 2004, according to the latest Yoh Index of Technology Wages, the quarterly compensation index used by Fortune 500 companies to determine salary scales.

Week 2003 2004 2005 % Change
28 100.18 103.22 105.98 2.7%
32 102.18 103.90 105.08 1.1%
36 104.22 105.26 104.80 -0.4%

In the third quarter, wages changed at varying levels, with a 2.7% uptick in July, a 1.1% improvement in August and a slight .4% decrease in September, as compared to the same months in 2004. The Yoh Index of Technology Wages ended the third quarter of 2005 at 104.80, when indexed to January 2001 (1/2001 = 100).

"After being hit by two major hurricanes, the summer quiet-period, and the largest hike in gas prices in history, ending the third quarter of 2005 with an overall increase in compensation is a very positive sign for wages and workers across the technology spectrum," according to Jim Lanzalotto, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing for Yoh, a Day & Zimmermann company. "There is a momentum in the professional and technology hiring ranks that is helping to increase competition among companies for the highest-quality consultants, and, consequently, to boost wages in order to attract the best talent."

Compiled quarterly by Yoh, one of the world's largest recruiting services firms for high-impact technology and professional talent, the Yoh Index of Technology Wages is used by emerging technology and Fortune 500 firms as a guide for determining their quarterly salary scale. Each Yoh Index identifies the top job titles in highest demand, and provides an index to compare current average wages over the same period last year.
