Frederick Miller Joins Day & Zimmermann's Board of Advisors
PHILADELPHIA, PA, January 4, 2005 -- Day & Zimmermann today announced that Frederick A. Miller, CEO and Lead Client Strategist for The Kaleel Jamison Consulting Group (KJCG), has joined the Company's Board of Advisors.
Fred is a pioneer and leading authority on creating cultures of inclusion that enable each person to do their best work. In his 30 plus years of experience, Fred has worked with numerous CEOs and senior level executives from such renowned companies as ExxonMobil, Dupont, Toyota, Foxwoods, Eileen Fisher, Wild Planet Toys, Northeast Utilities, and Apple Computers. Fred has also been involved with many founders of companies as they transition from a "founder-centric" culture to one of a professional management staff. He was involved with this transition at Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc., where he was on the board of directors for eight years.
"Prior to joining our Board of Advisors, Fred served as our diversity and inclusion advisor for two years, during which time he led us in the design of an inclusion strategy perfect for our privately-held company," says Hal Yoh, Day & Zimmermann's Chairman and CEO. "Diversity is one of our core values and Fred's valuable experience has helped us to leverage inclusion across our entire organization."
"As I worked with Hal and his Diversity Council, it became clear that Day & Zimmermann is dedicated to diversity and maximizing the contributions from all its employees," says Miller. "It's exciting to be part of an organization that values diversity and inclusion and the key roles they play in a company's success."
In 1972, as a manager with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (now CIGNA), Fred helped pioneer one of the nation's first corporate-level diversity and inclusion efforts. He joined KJCG in 1979, where his experience included groundbreaking work in systems-change initiatives with public and private organizations. He became President and CEO in 1985. He has worked with socially responsible organizations as they build a culture in which they can live their values and accomplish their mission. Fred is particularly respected for his ability to examine a system, issue, or culture (small group, community, or organization) at multiple levels and quickly translate his observations into a customized, strategic vision and change-oriented action.
Fred is a former board member of NTL Institute, American Society for Training & Development (ASTD), and the Organization Development Network (ODN), from which he received the Outstanding Service Award in 2000. Presently he is on the board of directors for Seton Health Systems, as well as being a member of the Social Venture Network (SVN). At the local level, he has organized the Troy 100 Forum, Community 2022, and is a board member of Historic Troy 2020—organizations of diverse people that work together to build a better future.
Fred is co-author, with Judith H. Katz, of The Inclusion Breakthrough: Unleashing the Real Power of Diversity (Berrett-Koehler, 2002). He frequently contributes to leading publications and is a regular speaker at national conferences.
A native Philadelphian now living near Albany, New York, Fred is a political science graduate of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.
